Jump Start

Jump Start is a five-day program for admitted students held prior to regular Orientation to medical school entry.  Jump Start is designed and implemented by second year medical students and the Associate Dean for Curriculum, and intended for students who have been out of the classroom setting for a while, for students with a limited science background, and for any other students nervous about beginning medical school.

Jump Start offers insight into the actual activities of daily life for a Mizzou medical student as well as providing an introduction to an integral part of the curriculum, PBL (problem-based learning), by working through a real patient case.  Other key events during the week include an overview of the evaluation process (including practice exams), an orientation to the medical school facilities, a review of computer and library resources, a presentation of other key resources and support available to medical students, various workshops, and hints/tips from older students that should make transitioning to medical school less stressful and more successful.  Social activities are also planned to familiarize students with fellow classmates, faculty, and the city of Columbia.

There is no fee for the program, but registration is requested.
