Entering first-year
students
2008-2009
- Start looking for privately funded scholarships about one year before
you anticipate entering medical school. Check out local organizations,
etc., and try some of the free national
scholarship searches linked to this Web site.
- Apply for admission to the University of Missouri-Columbia School
of Medicine by filing with the American Medical College Application
Service (AMCAS) by Nov. 1. A complete description of admission requirements
and the application process is found on the School
of Medicine Web site.
- If accepted, you will be mailed a School of Medicine scholarship
application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
form. (Most students apply electronically now.)
- After completing the School of Medicine scholarship application,
mail it to the address on the form.
- After completing your FAFSA, submit it to the federal processor.
If your taxes aren't done, you are allowed to estimate the amount
and correct it later. The FAFSA form asks for our federal school code;
it is 002516. Try to submit your FAFSA by mid-March if you are accepted
by that date.
- Expect to receive a blue and white Student Aid Report from the federal
processor within four to six weeks. If you filed an electronic FAFSA on the web, you will receive an e-mail. If you do not receive it, check
its status with the federal processor by calling 1 (800) 433-3243.
- Make sure your Student Aid Report is accurate. If it is not, you
can make changes online using the PIN given you by the U.S. Department
of Education.
- MU will receive your Student Aid Report electronically from the
federal processor and issue an electronic award letter. This award letter
will tell you the amount of aid for which you are eligible. Review
it carefully and accept, decline or modify the aid offered.
- If you accept loans, you normally will be sent promissory notes
to complete before funds actually will be credited to your account.
