- Psychiatry Third and Fourth Years
This clerkship provides experience in the clinical study of psychiatrically
disordered adults and children. Students assume
increasing responsibility in selected activities of the psychiatry
inpatient, outpatient, consultation/liaison services.
Six weeks full time during the third or fourth year are required for
all medical students. The psychiatry clerkship is taken in conjuction
with the neurology clerkship.
- Psychiatry Elective Third and Fourth Years
Electives are established in the following areas: forensic psychiatry,
adult outpatient psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatic
medicine and adult inpatient psychiatry. Emphasis is placed on developing
skills in history taking, psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, and
case presentation. Attention is focused on learning the principles
of psychiatric diagnosis, developing a core knowledge of diseases
of the mind and general principles of caring for patients. Students
participate in daily patient-care and teaching rounds and weekly conferences.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Psychiatry and Neurology Third
and Fourth Years.
- P Postgraduate Instruction in Psychiatry
A fully accredited residency program in general and child psychiatry
is available to qualified physicians. The MU Health Sciences Center
and Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center provides facilities for academic
and clinical training in all requisite phases of psychiatry.
