- Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinical Experience
During this rotation, students spend four weeks each on both the obstetric and gynecology services. While on the gynecology service, students spend two weeks at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center working with the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and two weeks at University Hospital and Clinics working with the Division of Gynecology. Time spent on both obstetrics and gynecology will be divided between the wards, clinics, operating room, labor and delivery, and didactic sessions. Students participate daily in rounds, lectures and conferences.
- Gynecologic Oncology Surgery Elective
Students gain additional surgical and gynecological clinical experience. They assist in surgical cases and attend tumor clinics, where they encounter procedures such as colposcopies and cervical and endometrial biopsies.
- Obstetrical Elective
Students gain additional experience in the labor and delivery suite. They assist with vaginal deliveries and episiotomies. Students also have exposure to Caesarean sections, bilateral tubal ligations, and dilatation and curettages.
- Obstetrical/Gynecological Outpatient Elective
Students expand their outpatient skills regarding antenatal care, health maintenance and preventive health care. They assist in the treatment of minor obstetrical and gynecological problems. They also perfect their skills in performing wet preps, pelvic exams, biopsies, fundal measurements and other procedures.
