Continuing Education and Extension

The Office of Rural Health Programs, Continuing Medical Education, is the extension arm of the MU School of Medicine. The educational needs of rural primary care physicians, who are not adequately served by private-sector CME providers in the state, are given top priority. The office sponsors programs that enable medical professionals to remain current in their chosen fields while meeting the requirements for state licensure. Continuing education programs in specialty medicine, mental health and allied health, as well as the Cooperative Extension Health Education effort, also are important areas of activity.

The Missouri Telehealth Network, which was developed in part through the efforts of the Office of Continuing Medical Education, also provides opportunities for innovative distance learning programs. Several departments broadcast weekly grand rounds to telemedicine sites. These conferences are live and interactive and fully accredited by the CME office.
