Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine

  • Anesthesiology Elective
Junior and senior students. The goals are to provide students with an understanding of the anesthetic state, to teach technical skills and to provide knowledge about maintaining artificial ventilation and circulation. Four-week periods are preferred, although eight-week electives are available. Actual participation in anesthetic evaluation and administration for surgical procedures is combined with close individual supervision. Arrangement for electives is made through the department chair.
  • B Postgraduate Instruction
The accredited residency lasts three years following a clinical base year or internship. Objectives are reached through close staff supervision of resident physicians during administration of anesthesia to patients undergoing surgery and by preoperative discussion of anesthetic management for every patient. Instruction includes weekly lectures; case presentations; morbidity and mortality conferences; visiting professors; anesthesia-oriented research; directed reading; and study time.
