Overview

  1. The purpose of the G&C Workgroup is to facilitate communication and to improve organizational systems within the SOM G&C enterprise.

  2. The intent is for representatives of SOM departments to attend the G&C Workgroup on a regular basis; there is recognition that inconsistent attendance will inhibit communication and the effectiveness of bi-directional flow of information.

  3. The culture of the G&C Workgroup is to identify and solve problems that lead to inefficiency in the SOM G&C process; all problems are open for discussion.

  4. Representatives from the Controller’s Office, OSPA, and SOM Grants & Contracts will attend as guests and to serve as sources of information. However, the departmental representatives will be empowered to shape agendas, propose strategies, and communicate concerns.

  5. Given that the purpose of the G&C Workgroup is to identify and solve problems, the group is not intended to be a forum for catharsis. To be maximally useful, the focus will remain on constructive problem-solving and sharing of information.

  6. If desired, the Associate Dean for Research will be willing to serve as Moderator for the G&C Workgroup. If preferred, other moderator strategies can be developed.

  7. The G&C Workgroup will meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00am; meetings are not expected to exceed one hour.

  8. The formation of the G&C Workgroup recognizes the critical importance of departmental grants and contract staff to the overall success and functioning of the School of Medicine.

  9. Compliance will be held as a shared value for the G&C Workgroup.
