Summary

Ductal carcinoma in situ is an early form of breast cancer which will progress to invasive cancer if not diagnosed and treated. Lobular carcinoma in situ has long been considered a "marker' for breast cancer and if left alone will not progress into invasive lobular cancer. We have been identifying a high number of cases of lobular carcinoma in situ associated with invasive lobular cancer. This research will review all cases of LCIS and invasive lobular cancer and determine if there is an association between the two. The student will be involved with writing the proposal and obtaining appropriate IRB approval, review the pathology database to identify all cases of LCIS and invasive lobular cancer diagnosed and treated at EFCC over the past 10 years. We will then statistically evaluate this data to determine if there is a significant association between these two disease processes. This research should result in a national presentation and publication.
