Summary

The University of Missouri Family Medicine Residency Program has been selected as one of 14 programs nationwide to participate in the P4 Initiative. Among the main points of our initiatives are:

  1. Evaluating whether our Integrated Residents (fourth year medical students engaged in residency activities) have a better training experience than traditional residents.
  2. Involving residents, patients and staff in the planning of our clinical and educational efforts.
  3. Building on the success of problem-based learning at the medical school level and bringing it to the residency level.
  4. Refocusing the emphasis of family medicine residency training on the FM Clinic (increased physical and virtual presence in clinic, further integration of the electronic medical record, more emphasis on patient-centered care, and particular attention to chronic illness management).

The Summer Research Fellow could be involved with any or all of the above initiatives, helping to collect data, conduct interviews, and facilitate changes. Students with a particular interest in family medicine, medical education, and/or educational research are encouraged to apply. Clinical experience in a variety of settings is also available
