Summary

Our laboratory is actively engaged in studies of DNA methylation and related epigenetic alterations in human leukemias and lymphomas. We have identified a number of genes that are abnormally affected by DNA methylation and histone modifications. A student project would involve detailed study of one or more of these genes to determine how mRNA and protein production are affected and what this might mean to the biology of the disease under study. Some laboratory experience in molecular biology and/or chemistry and biology would be beneficial. The laboratory is comprised of -15 individuals ranging from undergraduate students to include graduate and medical students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, thus there will be a group of peers with which to perform this research and develop a focused project that will result in publishable studies.
