2007 Student Research Day

Call For Abstracts For Poster Presentations

The Health Sciences Research Day (Thursday, November 1, 2007) provides a forum for the presentation of original research and educational innovations by medical students/Conley Scholars, nursing students and pre/post-doctoral trainees working with faculty who have appointments in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Truman VA Hospital.

A special feature of Research Day will be a keynote address by the recipient of the Dorsett L. Spurgeon M.D. Distinguished Medical Research Award. Details and subsequent updates can be found at: This Page

This is a formal call for abstracts for poster presentations.

One poster session will be held, with two categories.

Category I Conley Scholars, Undergraduate Students, Medical Students (including summer research fellows)
Category II Graduate Students/Postdoctoral Research Fellows, Medical Fellows and Residents

Tentative Schedule for Research Day on Thursday, November 1.

All events will be held in the Health Sciences Library Gallery, the adjoining Acuff Auditorium, and the School of Nursing.

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Poster Session - Category I - Library Gallery
(Medical Students, Undergraduates, and Conley Scholars)

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Poster Session Category II - School of Nursing Atrium
(Graduate Students, Post-Doctoral Research Fellows,
Medical Fellows, and Residents)

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Spurgeon Award Keynote Address - Acuff Auditorium

1:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony - Acuff Auditorium

Awards will be given to those presenters in each category judged to have the best posters. Holders of academic titles are not eligible for awards.

First Prize: $500.00
Second Prize: $250.00
Third Prize: $150.00

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007. Abstracts must be submitted via email to the Office of the Dean at: shoemakerd@health.missouri.edu Also, please provide your academic status (undergraduate, M1, resident, etc.)

Text should be in a WORD document only, single-spaced with a maximum of 250 words using 12 point Times New Roman font with side margins of 1.25 inches. Tables and computer graphics may be included in the text if the abstract does not exceed one page when printed with the font indicated. Headings should be in the following format:

TITLE IN UPPER CASE [centered]
Name of individual presenting the poster along with current standing (i.e. M-1, postdoctoral fellow, graduate student, undergraduate student)
(Faculty Sponsor in parentheses) [centered]
Name of Department [centered]
