Nellie B. Smith Chair of Oncology Michael Perry, MD, is deputy director of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and director of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. He joined the MU School of Medicine faculty in 1975 after completing a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in hematology and oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
He also served eight years as chair of MU’s Department of
Internal Medicine. For 30 years, Dr. Perry has been a member of Cancer and
Leukemia Group B, a clinical research group sponsored by the National Cancer
Institute. He has served the group as both a researcher and an administrator.
In 2003, he was elected to the American Society of Clinical Oncology Board
of Directors. The following year, he was appointed to the Federal Drug
Administration’s Oncology Drug Advisory Committee.
Dr. Perry serves on several
editorial boards, including those for the Journal of Clinical Oncology and
Seminars in Oncology. He also has edited various texts, such as multiple editions
of The Chemotherapy Sourcebook. Dr. Perry was named an Honorary Alumnus by
the University of Missouri and a Distinguished Alumnus by Wayne State
University Medical School. He has twice received the Outstanding Teaching
Award from the internal medicine department.
