Greg Flaker, MD
Chair, Data Safety & Monitoring Board Greg Flaker, MD ’76, has devoted much of his life to advancing the academic mission of MU’s School of Medicine. He attended the University from his undergraduate years through residency training, and he has spent his entire 24-year career as a member of the school’s cardiology division. He has directed the division as well as its research program, fellowship program and electrophysiology laboratory.
In 2002, Dr. Flaker was appointed to the Order of Socrates
for his contributions to education at the medical school, and in 2003 he
received MU’s Distinguished Faculty Award. He also has received the Hugh
Stephenson Award for research from the Missouri affiliate of the American
Heart Association. Consistently listed as one of the best doctors in America,
Dr. Flaker is regarded as a role model by many students, residents and fellows.
He also has served as a leader and lead participant in several multi-center
trials, and his research has been published in more than 100 papers. In 2002,
Dr. Flaker achieved his fifth appearance as an author in the New England Journal
of Medicine. Other articles of his have appeared in The Lancet and the Journal of
the American Medical Association.
