The Division of Reproductive and Perinatal Research is based in the University of Missouri- Columbia School of Medicine. The division goal is to become one of the top 25 obstetrical and gynecological research departments in the United States as evidenced by national and international awards and recognition, an outstanding publication record and significant external research funding. Division faculty participate in the campus wide Reproductive Biology Cluster through collaborative research efforts with faculty representing four schools/ colleges and 17 different departments on the MU campus. Opportunities exist for patients to participate in state-of-the-art research clinical trials.

Clinical research focus areas of the division include:

  • establishment and maintenance of pregnancy
  • pathophysiologies of reproductive disease and pregnancy

Research approaches include:

  • molecular and cellular
  • genetic and epigenetic
  • immunological
  • studies of inflammation

Research projects include studies of:

  • endometriosis
  • infertility and early pregnancy losses
  • female reproductive cancers
  • effects of fetal exposures to environmental and dietary estrogens on reproduction in the adult
  • male factor infertility
  • preterm labor and premature rupture of membranes
  • gestational hypertension and preeclampsia
  • diabetes in pregnancy
  • multiple gestations
