This session will define health literacy and provide a background on the evolution of the term and its knowledge base. You will find out the extent and effects of poor health literacy patterns in the United States with illustrative video clips. This session will further look at the roles of education and culture in health literacy and discuss several methods of assessing this construct. Finall, this session will look at how you can apply your understanding of health literacy to improve patient care.
