  • Outline an evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of these mental health issues.
  • Demonstrate strategies that are useful in the office management of mood and anxiety disorders in the pediatric setting.

  • Define the different disorders of speech/language development.
  • Discuss methods of detection that can be effectively employed in the office setting to assess a child with suspected speech/language delay.
  • Review the recommended management for children with identified speech/language delay and the role the primary care provider plays as part of the management team.

  • Discuss the most common childhood vision disorders that can be expected to present in the office setting.
  • Determine appropriate thresholds for referral to a pediatric opthalmologist.

Educational Objectives:

  • Identify sleep disorders that commonly occur in infancy and childhood and their physiologic causes.
  • Discuss appropriate management strategies for parents of children with disordered sleep.
  • Detemine those disorders of sleep that may indicate a more serious underlying etiology that may require specialty referral.
