How To Apply

The following documentation should be submitted through ERAS. Please refer to: ERAS Home Page.

  1. Common application form and personal statement
  2. Transcripts
  3. Dean's Letter
  4. Three letters of recommendation from faculty or clinicians.
  5. For those applying for an advanced position, we require a certificate of completion of a clinical base year or a letter from the applicant's current program director indicating when he/she has or will satisfactorily complete clinical base training.
  6. USMLE or COMLEX Transcripts
  7. ECFMG Status Report

The department selects candidates who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and research abilities. Students will match for PGY-1 positions starting in July 1, 2009 or CA-1 (PGY-2) positions beginning in July 1, 2010. Candidates who have completed a clinical base year will not be eligible for a categorical position. We like to see USMLE scores above 215 on the first attempt. COMLEX scores are accepted, and we like to see them in the 600 range. Our program does not currently accept/sponsor residents on J1 or H1B visas. Deadline for application is January 1, 2009 and the deadline for interview will be February 1, 2009.

Medical students who are thinking about the University of Missouri program should realize that, generally, the anesthesiologist is the only doctor in the operating room involved in total patient care. As a result, students in their senior year should concentrate on acquiring a comprehensive understanding of physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. Doing 4th-year rotations in cardiology, pulmonary medicine, and anesthesiology are excellent ways to prepare for an anesthesiology residency.
