School of Medicine Hosts Physician Job Fair
Event encourages students, physicians to consider Missouri employment opportunities
The University of Missouri’s School of Medicine will host a statewide physician placement job fair from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, in the medical school’s Russell D. and Mary B. Shelden Clinical Simulation Center in the Clinical Support and Education Building.
The main purpose of the job fair is to provide an opportunity for representatives of health care facilities in communities that need physicians to visit with residents and fellows potentially interested in practicing in Missouri. Ultimately, the outcome is to increase the number of physicians practicing in rural and underserved areas of Missouri.
“The MU School of Medicine’s mission is not only to educate outstanding physicians but also to encourage them to practice medicine in our state,” said Kathleen Quinn, PhD, director of the rural track program at the MU School of Medicine. “This job fair will give physicians and medical students a chance to see the depth and breadth of professional opportunities Missouri has to offer. It is our hope that with the right match, these physicians will establish both practices and homes in their chosen Missouri communities.”
Medical residents, fellows and third-year and fourth-year medical students from MU will meet with representatives of 25 health care facilities from a wide variety of Missouri communities during the job fair.
“What sets MU’s Missouri Physician Placement Service (MPPS) apart is the individual attention residents and medical students receive throughout their education and our efforts in bridging their educational experience with future job placement in our home state,” said Kathy Brown, program manager of Missouri Physician Placement Service in the Office of Rural Health Programs at the MU School of Medicine. “I think this provides us with an enormous potential to create ‘win-win’ situations for both physicians and Missouri communities.”
Since the program started four years ago, MPPS has assisted in placing 14 physicians in rural communities in Missouri.
