Mental Health Institute Director Receives American Psychological Association, Fulbright Awards
Dr. Danny Wedding recognized for outstanding contributions to his profession
Danny Wedding, PhD, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and director of the Missouri Institute of Mental Health in St. Louis, has received two awards that recognize outstanding contributions to his profession.
The American Psychological Association will present Wedding with the 2008 Ernest R. Hilgard Award for outstanding lifetime contributions to general psychology. Wedding will be recognized at the APA’s Society for General Psychology meeting in August 2008 in Boston, and he will present the Hilgard Lecture in August 2009 at the APA’s meeting in Toronto.

Beginning in September 2008, Wedding will serve as a Fulbright-Yonsei Distinguished Lecturer at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. The Fulbright Scholar Program selects English-speaking professors with distinguished academic records for the lecture award program in Yonsei. For 10 months, Wedding will deliver public lectures, teach, participate in joint research, and interact with scientists and students at one of Korea’s best institutions of higher learning.
Wedding was previously recognized as a Fulbright Senior Scholar, and he is an elected fellow of five APA divisions. Since completing his PhD in 1979 at the University of Hawaii, Wedding has received a master’s degree in public health from Saint Louis University, served as a congressional fellow for health policy and science policy, and currently serves as editor of the APA’s journal PsycCRITIQUES. He also has served as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and a corpsman in the U.S. Air Force.
The Missouri Institute of Mental Health has served the mental health community in Missouri since it was founded in 1962. The institute’s faculty generates approximately $5 million in annual research revenue and writes grant applications that bring between $20 million to $30 million each year to Missouri.
